  • What are your views towards NEWater? Why?

Helps Singapore to increase water supply but unfortunately not popular among people. I will not drink it even though it is safe for drinking
I think those water are like normal water just that it tastes weird because its purified
I feel that it is a good idea. We can look up to the fact that we are able to support ourselves with an alternative way to get water.
NEWater is cool because it is recycled water/waste water
It is very clean. It have gone through a lot of filters
I think that is is generally an effective way of saving water though it is not cost effective
It is disgusting
NEWater shows how independent Singapore is because we don't have to rely on other countries

  • What do you think if NEWater becomes the main source of drinking water in the future?

I will not be able to get used to it because it taste different from normal drinking water.
Actually, I won't mind
I think that it will not get supported by all citizens. Some people are particular in consuming recycled water as they worry about the quality and cleanliness of the water. But as for me, I am fine as we have been educated and it is really clean.
That will be great as it is Eco-friendly and clean
I think its great
I think its fine with me. I have no objections as long as they purify the water
It have to taste better
Few Singaporeans will drink it since they think it is not clean enough despite all the filtering

  • NEWater is urine collected from our toilets to be recycled into safe drinking water. Do you think this is a clever way to recycle water? Why?

Yes. (Unsure why)
Yup, quite clever because most people use toilets at least once a day and the water used to flush the toilet is actually quite a lot
Yes. These fluids could be transformed from waste water into better use and it can save money and pollution
Yes definitely. We are making use of the resources that we have. This saves time
Yes. We are able to reuse water and become independent
Yes it is a clever way to recycle water. The earth only have 5% of freshwater and we have a shortage.
Yes. But when people knows where it comes from, they will not like the idea.
Quite. It helps us reuse water

  • NEWater is already being added into reservoir water and they are coming into our taps? What do you feel about it.

I think its reasonable as long as we are not drinking it
Its okay. I don't mind
I feel okay. Clean water regardless of its origins should not be put to waste since it can be used
I feel okay
I feel that this is really good
I am unfeeling towards it
I cannot taste the difference
I feel that it is a better idea since people will feel less disgusted as compared to urine

  • Do you think that NEWater has helped Singapore a lot in solving water shortage problems? Why?

Currently no because we can still get water from Malaysia but NEWater may help in the future
Yup because Singapore used a lot of water and NEWater will improve or current situation
Yes. It is locally produced and hence, minimize communication error and problems that may affect both countries in terms of obtaining water
Yes. We save precious money as we don't have to buy water from malaysia. We also save time as pipes in Singapore are all inter-connected
Yes. It will allow us to be independent
Yes it helped Singapore a lot. NEWater is one of the main national taps.
I am not sure how NEWater is produced but I think it helps one way or another
Yes it made Singapore more independent,

  • Do you think that the Singapore government has made a good choice in decreasing Singapore's reliance on buying water from other countries such as Malaysia? Why?

Yes because there is no guaranteed that Malaysia will continue to supply us with water after the contract ends
Yes if war was to break out or malaysia decided not to sell us water, Singapore will still be independent and continue surviving
Yes. Since we have our own way of obtaining clean water, we ought to be independent and optimize our resources
Yes because they start their own initiative like NEWater
Yes.Other countries will not be able to threaten us if anything happen as we are independent.
yes we cannot be over reliant over imported water as if we get into a fight with malaysia they may threaten to cut off our water supply and its safer to rely on our own natural resources
Yes. We are an independent country so we should try not to rely too much on other countries for things as simple as water. It is okay to rely but not too heavily. It would be better if we can supply our own water.

  • Do you think that NEWater will be a great help in the future if any country that we buy water from suddenly stops selling us water? Why?

Yes. There is no other way we can get water
Yes. It will ensure the continuity of water supply to all homes of Singapore and allow each individual to be able to meet his/her daily needs
Yeah because we don't have to depend on other countries and can use our country's resources
Yes. We will still be self-sufficient
Yes we can keep recycling water and no water shall go to waste
Yes. We can still survive
A little. although we have our own supply of water, some people would feel disgusted and refuse to drink after knowing where it is from.

Analysis of response
From the survey results, we can actually tell that most people do not drink NEWater even though it is beneficial to Singapore in a long run. The common reason why they do not drink is because they felt that NEWater is disgusting and do not taste good. Basically, it is more of people's mindset as NEWater is perfectly safe to consume and the taste is due to it being purified. I think that more have to be done to promote NEWater because water is essential in our life and if one day, we run out of water, at least we still have this technology of recycling water. I also felt that we have to treasure water and not take it for granted as some countries do not even have clean water to consume.
